Micro Blog Idea

I’ve come up with an idea for a microblogging concept, and I can’t shake it. However, I’m trying to make it more than just a twitter clone.

The first idea I had to differentiate the concept was to make the website essentially purely ASCII. The second idea was to limit posting, no images essentially is the limiter. Another idea I had is to create some kind of text-like MMO, your achievements will get auto-posted to your profile and those that follow your feed will get an update alert about it.

I started with prototyping the initial front-end, and I’m pretty happy with the results. It’s a nice mix of extremely low-tech with a cartoon blend that achieves the nostalgic feeling I imagined in my head.

When it’s finished I’d like to integrate some kind of paste service on it, along with some kind of concept for social games. I really enjoyed the million checkboxes concept, sharing open APIs and allowing developers to create temporary art I think is something I would love to explore. Hopefully this project can be the start of that.

If I do end up finishing this project enough to where it’s in a state I can share it, I’ll edit this post.
